Why Donate?

True to the tradition and philosophy of hospices around the world we provide care and support to our residents and families without charge. As our Ontario government does not fund hospices or hospital palliative beds, we must rely on the generosity of the community-at-large and on fund raising events for our ongoing operating costs.

The current operating cost of each of our six beds is approximately $200.00 per day, which is a fraction of the cost of an acute care bed in hospitals.  We minimize our operating expenses by working in partnership with the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) to access the hours of nursing, support care and equipment that our residents would have received in their own homes and by the extensive use of our volunteers, who offer support to our residents and families and who perform many of the household and administrative tasks so necessary for the smooth running of our House.  The remaining round-the-clock care is provided by our paid staff and constitutes approximately 75% of our operating cost, with the remaining 25% covering the day-to-day costs of operating the House itself.
