Ian Anderson House
Testimonials
Dear Mrs. Anderson, staff and volunteers…
“The approaching death of a loved one is the most traumatic experience for any family. The pain and suffering of a loved one and the anguish and feeling of helplessness of the family in the last weeks are beyond expression. What can we possibly do to make this time more bearable for our loved one? How can we be of more help? Such questions and worries haunt our every waking moment. And then we learn of the existence of Ian Anderson House.”
“I wish there was a new vocabulary I could use to praise you, the nurses, staff and volunteers for the indelible imprint you left on my wife and our family these last three or so weeks. Within a day of arriving, my wife was rejuvenated after two weeks in a hospital bed, sporadic sleep and fear. Her spark, smile, humor and dignity were restored and her independence allowed to flourish in her own room, wearing her favorite clothes, her makeup, fussing with her hair and seeing us all hours of the day and night. We came there to ease death and found life and joy.”
“As I entered, someone took my bags and others were lined along the hallway with smiles of welcome on their faces. It didn’t take me long to realize what an amazing place Ian Anderson House is. One of the nurses bent over my sister and softly said “you have been serving people all your life, now it is our turn to serve you”. My family and I will be eternally grateful for the wonderful, peaceful, respectable way my sister spent the last week of her life.”
“My wife is accepted as a patient – or would it be more appropriate to say as a guest. She is given a room all to herself. She made this her own little haven. She brings several of her precious knickknacks and beloved pictures, and the room immediately becomes hers. She can rest among the familiar, with her family around at all times. The whole family becomes aware of the peace and quiet and the loving care and attention that she receives at any time of the day or night. No detail is too large or too small to be ignored. Within seconds, if ever needed a nurse or volunteer will quietly appear at her bedside. And this unobtrusive but loving care and concern are the essence of this wonderful hospice. Everything is focused on making these final days as pleasant and pain-free as possible. Here my wife is allowed to die with quiet and dignity. We, the family, are so very, very grateful for everything. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
“The process of admission was very fast and efficient and my husband requested to be transferred from the hospital to IAH and settled down once he was there.”
“I can’t say enough about your amazing facility and staff, the unbelievable care and compassion that you show, goes above and beyond any standard of care. My grandmother had always taken care of her entire family and had always put other people first her entire life and she deserved to be taken care of the way she took care of others.”
“Your staff and volunteers, each and every one, was helpful and caring, quick to respond to problems, and offer advice and comfort. The staff worked as a team to care for my father and to support my family. I do not know how the family would have made it through this sad time without your help.”
“From the first time I walked into Ian Anderson House I was overwhelmed by the warm, cozy, inviting feel of the house and by the kindness of the staff and volunteers. You treated my sister with a gentleness and warmth that she would not have received in a hospital. It was very comforting to know that she was in very caring, competent, loving hands. A great big thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
